Restoration and Interior Design of a Stone House in Sougia, Chania, South Crete. This project focuses on the reinforcement of a traditional masonry building. The primary objective was to reuse traditional forms and interior characteristics, seamlessly integrating them with contemporary design elements to accommodate a modern lifestyle.
During her academic studies, she carried out studies at all spatial scales (architecture, urban planning, spatial planning), focusing on the integration of new buildings in historical environments, their enhancement and protection, methods of intervention in historical buildings, as well as research studies with a focus on historical cultures and their historically organized and constructed spaces.
Evangelia (Eliza) Gereoudaki was born in Chania, Crete, in 1984. She studied Architecture at the Department of Architectural Engineering at the Polytechnic School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from which she graduated with honors in March 2010. During her studies, she focused on the study of traditional Greek architecture, with particular emphasis on Macedonian and Cretan styles. She researched housing types, traditional construction methods, and materials, with a central focus on history, function, space, and place. Guided by the principles of preservation, enhancement, and adaptive reuse of traditional architectural assets, historical sites, and settlements, she conducted urban planning studies, design, and sustainable development of settlements in the municipality of Anthemounta, Halkidiki, and in the Old Town of Chania. The study involved the type of space, in terms of its functional structure, and developed a methodology for analyzing and evaluating the shells of buildings with specific criteria, aimed at codifying and planning interventions in these spaces. On a research level, she carried out comparative studies and interpretations of the urban organization of settlements in pre-Columbian cultures of South-Western America, focusing on the period between 1200 AD and 1572 AD, during the formation of the Inca Empire. She later pursued postgraduate studies at the Department of Architecture of the Technical University of Crete, where she earned a master's degree with honors, specializing in the field of "Integrated Protection of Historic Built Environments with Advanced Technologies and Materials." Her postgraduate research focused on intervention and restoration methods for historical buildings and load-bearing masonry structures, as well as mechanisms of deterioration and criteria for interventions. She studied the behavior of traditional existing shells made of stone and timber masonry using finite element methods. Furthermore, she developed and presented a methodology for the comparative assessment of interventions with different materials in traditional buildings to derive conclusions regarding their structural behavior. Since 2010, she has been running her own architectural office in her hometown of Chania, where she resides. Drawing inspiration from various sources, especially surrealist poetry and classical dance, she continues to explore new dimensions in architectural creation.
Our office is located in a modern space, designed to be an environment of inspiration and creativity.
